Quiet Time allows Jesus into your life

Quiet Time is time you set aside to talk with God. You shut out the world and all its distractions.

"It is necessary that one should have a silent corner in which to converse with God, as if nothing else existed... every day." (Edith Stein)

Find a place where phone, television or other people will not disturb you — or visit a church.

As I bow in the quiet room I have made in my heart, Lord,
let the hush of your presence fall upon me.

Jesus does not say... If you pray. He says... When you pray. He takes it for granted that prayer will be part of your life.

Do you pray and feel nothing?

Say the name Jesus

face of Jesus The saints had a secret. They were always aware of God's presence.

Say the name, “Jesus” often, as you would say a friend’s name. Use the name, “Jesus” to drive away fear, to rescue from temptation, to banish loneliness and to conquer your faults.

When you tenderly say the name, “Jesus”, God Himself hears and quickly attends to you.

Set aside time each day to talk to God as though you had an appointment with Him. Keep that appointment no matter how you feel.

At first your prayer time may be only a few minutes, but aim for 20 minutes a day. Have Quiet Time at the same time each day. Then you are less likely to miss a day. With determination, it becomes a good habit.

If you miss a day, don’t be discouraged. Start again the very next day. Soon you will experience:

  • A sense of peace, an inner calm.
  • A power over things that pull you down.
  • A certainty that your past failures have been forgiven.
  • A joy in your heart that is independent of circumstances.
  • A new closeness to Jesus Christ.

In Quiet Time, Jesus helps us to make sense of our lives.

Our deliverance from darkness and sin was bought at a great price. Jesus Christ, the Son of God suffered and died on the Cross in order to free us from sin (Ephesians 1:7).

Although prayers or good works can never repay this great gift from God, a prayer of thanks for God’s daily care should be included in our Quiet Time conversations.
