Talking to God
Try talking with Jesus during your day. Tell Him about your plans, your hopes and fears. Let Him know how you are feeling. Don't hide anything from Him.
Jesus will become a stranger if you don't pray. One day something will happen to wake you up. You will realize that you desperately need Him. This is Jesus telling you, "Come back to Me with all your heart."
Include other people in your prayers. Don't just pray for your relative or friend suffering from cancer, pray for everyone with cancer. Your prayer is more powerful when you pray for many people, instead of only one.
Remember to pray for others... the sick and the dying, those looking for work, those with family or financial problems, those who don’t know Jesus and those who have lost their way. This is a Prayer of Request.
Other types of prayer are: - Prayers of Praise for the beauty and wonder of God's creation.
- Prayers of Thanksgiving for what God has done for you.
- Prayers of Love for the mercy He has shown to you.
- Prayers of Sorrow for the things you did, but should not have done.
And for the things that you failed to do.
You don't need to say a lot of words or even use a book. Just let your words flow naturally. Your prayers can be said anywhere and at any time. Jesus is just that close to you.
If it keeps your mind from wandering, talk out loud. And if it helps you, keep a journal of your conversations with Jesus.
Suggestions for starting a conversation:
- Say a prayer like the
Our Father
slowly and with attention to the meaning.
- Read a spiritual book and talk about it with Jesus.
- Listen to a religious CD at home or in your car.
- Repeat an inspirational saying such as “Jesus, I trust in You.”
- Reflect on Christ’s love. He has brought you through many difficulties.
Talking to God is a natural human activity that does not require any special powers. What could be more natural than wanting to know the God Who created you
and to Whom you will one day return?
