Personal holiness
Personal holiness is not about being religious or looking pious. It is about being selfless - try hard to follow the Commandments
- trust God when troubles seem to overwhelm you
- forgive even when it is difficult to forgive
- help others in whatever way you can
Holiness is not just for priests and nuns and elderly peopleJesus told us: "Be perfect as your heavenly Father is perfect." (Matthew 5:48) Trying to be holy can be very difficult... there are many temptations. Stay close to Jesus and temptation will not overcome you. If we focus on Christ's love for us and not on ourselves, we can find the strength to keep striving for holiness. Saint Augustine surrendered his life to Christ, when he fully understood how much Jesus loved him.
When you realize how much Jesus loves you, promise Him, "Whatever changes in my life are needed. I will try to make them."
Introduction to the Devout Life, 400th Anniversary Edition
is a great help to understand the turning to God process.
Christ gives a special strength to those who struggle to
follow Him.
Regular prayer and the Eucharist give us the strength.
When we sin, even if it is telling βa little lie,β we are doing something God hates.
We often excuse ourselves by saying, βIt is not something serious... besides, who did I hurt?β The answer is... God.
God does not give up on us when we sin
But He expects us to try to be holy... with the help of the Holy Spirit.
